Abai region to become the first region in Kazakhstan to undergo a comprehensive analysis of its agro-industrial complex
The project was initiated by the Agrarian Credit Corporation. The aim is to identify the region's growth points, assess its place in global value chains and determine the most promising areas for development.
The project was presented at a working meeting attended by representatives of government agencies, development institutions and business. JSC Agrarian Credit Corporation was represented at the event by Alikhan Yerzhanov, Director of the Strategy and Corporate Development Department.
The project provides for a comprehensive analysis of the region's potential: its existing production base, raw material resources, export opportunities, logistics infrastructure and prospects for establishing new high value-added production facilities. Particular attention is paid to integrating the region's “reliable farmers” into global value chains and attracting investment under the anchor buyer-investor model, whereby a large foreign buyer of Kazakhstani products simultaneously participates in co-financing the project.
The concept comprises four key stages: analysis of promising commodity niches in the agro-industrial complex in the regions of Kazakhstan; identification of potential buyer-investors in foreign markets in terms of whether the product meets the expected quality, volume and regularity of supply; search for strategic partners among “reliable farmers”; and structuring of new investment projects involving the buyer-investor, domestic producers and development institutions.
The results of the pilot project in Abai region will serve as the basis for replicating the approach in other regions of the country. The comprehensive analysis is expected to identify the most promising areas for developing the agro-industrial complex, increase the investment attractiveness of the regions and create conditions for implementing new projects aimed at both domestic and foreign markets.
