Italian seedlings on Almaty land

For the last three years, the life of Sergey Govorov from Almaty has been closely connected with the agricultural business, although he is a civil engineer by profession. It all started in 2013 when a gardening friend approached him to become a business partner. First, apple trees, raspberries, and alfalfa were planted on 30 hectares. But gradually the understanding came that for an effective business it is necessary to introduce new technologies. They didn’t reinvent the wheel, and in 2019 they started intensive gardening. The construction of 130 hectares of an apple orchard required a lot of money. And after weighing all the pros and cons, friends and business partners decided to get a loan from the Agrarian Credit Corporation.

“We received a loan from the corporation under the Agribusiness program. Two years ago, we bought 5 varieties of apple trees in Italy: Gala, Golden Delicious, Fuji, Red Delicious and Red Jonaprince. Why apples? Our garden is located in the Enbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region, there are very favorable conditions for gardening. We experienced the advantages of intensive gardening: already last year we received the first harvest, about 350-400 tons. This year we plan to collect twice as much,” says Sergey Govorov, director of Alma-Ata Apples LLP.

The loan received from the Agrarian Credit Corporation in 2020 was used to purchase agricultural machinery. It was not without difficulties: due to the pandemic and the closure of borders, the delivery of seedlings slowed down, the trees were planted at the wrong time, and therefore not all of them took root. To make up for the losses, it was decided once again to apply to the corporation for financial support. In the next 4 years, the company plans to harvest 8,000 tons of apples. This will allow not only timely settlement of obligations, but also expand the boundaries of activities. Indeed, in the nearest plans of businessmen is the construction of a fruit storage.
