Greenhouse on a salt marsh

Despite the scarce land and water shortages, residents of the Mangistau region continue to develop the greenhouse business. And not without success. There are more than 300 large and small greenhouses in the region. One of them was built by the Kyzyl Tan peasant farm, operating in the village of Akshukur, Tupkaragan district.

The owner of the farm, Shadiyar Urkimbaev, has devoted his entire adult life to agriculture, and he knows the industry like the back of his hand. In 2014, an entrepreneur opened a small greenhouse in Akshukur. Today, the area of closed ground has expanded to 3 thousand square meters.

“To increase the area, funds were required to purchase heating gas boilers and a desalination plant. And this equipment is expensive. In search of a source of financing, last year we turned to the Agrarian Credit Corporation. We provided a business plan and received a loan under the Agribusiness program. In addition to purchasing equipment received additional working capital,” notes the head of the Kyzyl Tan farm Shadiyar Urkimbaev.

Cucumbers are grown in the greenhouse and sold during the off-season. This fall, 40 tons of products were collected and delivered to Aktau retail outlets. Currently, seedlings are being planted in the greenhouse; they plan to harvest the products by the New Year. The entrepreneur intends to harvest 3-4 times a year.

Greenhouse farming is a successful business for the Mangistau region. The fact is that 80% of vegetables in the region are imported from neighboring regions and countries. The opening of a new business is helped by the programs of the Agricultural Credit Corporation.
