Weather insurance

We remind you that since 2020, insurance in the agricultural sector is carried out on a voluntary basis. Insurance products in crop production cover risks based on the lack and excess of moisture in the soil.

Thus, in 2023, 279 thousand hectares of cultivated areas were insured against drought and excess moisture in the soil. At the same time, farmers' expenses for insurance amounted to only 330 million tenge, the rest of the insurance premium was paid through government subsidies in the amount of 1,319 million tenge.

As a result of unfavorable weather conditions during the sowing and harvesting campaign, insurance companies paid 3,782 million tenge in favor of farmers who insured their crops, of which:

- 2,896 million tenge for the insurance product of soil moisture deficiency (drought);

- 886 million tenge for an insurance product for excess soil moisture during the harvesting campaign.

The insurance payments received allowed farmers to cover their losses, including repaying debts to creditors.

These figures show that the insurance system in the agro-industrial complex guarantees the farmer coverage of losses in the event of adverse natural events, and this mechanism successfully works in favor of the farmer.

It should be noted that the risks of domestic insurance companies are reinsured by international companies with a worldwide reputation, this guarantees that the farmer receives his payments when an insured event occurs.

Moreover, all insurance procedures, from concluding a contract to receiving insurance payments, are carried out online on the Agroinsurance information service, hosted on the Kezekte.kz platform.

Thus, to insure his risks, a farmer only needs to have access to the Internet and an electronic digital signature. The current insurance platform is very accessible and convenient.

The occurrence of an insured event is recorded through daily space monitoring and the system independently, without the participation of the human factor, calculates and sets the amount of insurance payments. At the same time, insurance payments for moisture deficiency are made monthly at the end of the phase insurance period.

State support in the form of subsidizing the insurance premium in the amount of 80% of the insurance premium allows the farmer to buy an insurance policy by paying only 20% of the total amount.
